What Makes a Great RC Event?
There are many great RC events, and they don’t always have to be the biggest or most famous ones like Snowbirds or the TITC. Some club races can be even better than national events. It doesn’t take much, just a few key things can make an event stand out and be enjoyable for everyone. Before we go through our list of what makes a great RC event, we asked our followers on Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit what they enjoy most. We got some detailed responses, and a common theme was clear—fun, organisation, and a strong community make the best events.
Many racers prefer a friendly and relaxed atmosphere over intense competition. One racer said, "For me, this hobby is for my free time, not to just sit with a straight face racing competitively." Others agreed that too much competition can ruin the experience, with another adding, "I used to race a lot, but the overly competitive (and childish) adults ruined it."
Good organisation is key. A well-run event should have clear rules, a smooth schedule, and enough track time for everyone. As one racer put it, "The most fun is when it's well run and organised so things flow smoothly and quickly."
A good track, fair racing, and a strong club presence all help make an event successful. Social aspects, such as food, meeting new people, and a welcoming atmosphere, also make a big difference. Whether it’s a BBQ, biscuits, or even a beer—these little things help make an event memorable. The best events focus on fun and bringing people together to enjoy RC racing.
10 Key Factors For Creating a Great RC Event
-
Friendly and Welcoming Atmosphere – Racers of all levels should feel included. Even the most serious events need a friendly vibe to be remembered.
-
Good Communication – Clear schedules and updates help keep stress levels low and make the event run smoothly. This also reduces the number of questions the organisers have to deal with, giving them more time to focus on running the event.
-
Good Marketing and Booking Process – A well-advertised event creates excitement. Use posters and regular social media posts to attract racers. A simple and stress-free booking system is also essential. (Need help with marketing? Check out RC Club Hub’s club marketing products!)
-
Well-Designed Track – The track should be fun, challenging, and suitable for the level of racers attending. Test the layout before the event if possible.
-
Clear and Well-Communicated Rules – Make sure all rules are well thought out and tested in advance, especially if there are any special restrictions (such as control tyres or scrutineering checks).
-
Good Schedule Planning – Balance is key. The event should allow enough racers to take part while ensuring they get enough track time. If the event is oversubscribed, look at how other successful events manage entry limits.
-
Good Facilities – The basics matter. Pit space, seating, food, and nearby amenities all help make an event enjoyable. Bad facilities will be remembered more than good ones!
-
Popular Classes – Offer classes that are popular in the area. It’s great to have variety, but too many classes can make the event harder to run smoothly.
-
Experienced Race Directors – Good officials keep things moving, call out positions clearly, and handle problems without affecting the overall experience.
-
Support for All Ages – Encouraging young racers and newcomers helps grow the hobby. Seeing beginners at an event adds a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
A great RC event is about more than just racing—it’s about creating a fun and enjoyable experience for everyone involved!

Cool Wall Submissions
Club Hub Steve - Mercedes Bronze
Verdict: Once again the admin team can't be on the cool wall, but we really wanted to show you how cool Bronze looks on a bodyshell. You need to try it!
Tom Berry - Neon Blue
Verdict: Tom's third submission to the cool wall. The body doesn't quiet look to Tom normal quality but he makes up for it with a great framed shot at a race meeting.
Crusty - Tamiya Team Truck
Verdict: Crusty RC is also back with this gem of a Racing Truck. Painted in the Tamiya Blue and Red colours, this Mon-Tech racers looks very fast before it hits the track. Another Racing Truck makes it onto the wall.
