Club Review

Based in the Hillsborough area of Sheffield, the Off Road RC Club SOAR has quickly emerged as a popular destination for remote control car enthusiasts. Despite being established only a few years ago, this vibrant club has rapidly gained a strong following, attracting a diverse group of members who share a passion for off-road RC racing.

The club boasts an impressive outdoor track that features a flat grass surface, expertly designed with a variety of jumps and obstacles to challenge and thrill racers of all skill levels. During the colder winter months, the action moves indoors to a large marquee, where the track is laid out with EOS carpet, ensuring that the racing excitement continues year-round regardless of the weather.

One of the standout features of SOAR is the inclusive environment it fosters. The club is home to a wide range of abilities, from National A Finalists who bring a high level of competition to the track, to junior beginners who are just starting their journey in the world of RC racing. This mix creates a dynamic and supportive community where everyone can enjoy and improve their skills.

For those attending the races, the club provides ample space for pitting, though members are advised to bring their own tables, chairs, and power supplies. Additionally, on hotter days, some form of shelter is recommended to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

In summary, the Off Road RC Club SOAR in Hillsborough, Sheffield, offers an exciting and inclusive environment for RC racing enthusiasts. With its well-maintained tracks, year-round racing opportunities, and a supportive community, it is no wonder the club has quickly become a favourite among both seasoned racers and newcomers alike.

SOAR Sheffield Off Road Indoor Track

SOAR Sheffield Off Road Racing

During one of their outdoor meetings, I had the pleasure of visiting the Off Road RC Club SOAR and experiencing firsthand the vibrant atmosphere and dynamic racing environment. It was particularly heartening to see so many kids racing and thoroughly enjoying themselves at the club. The enthusiasm and joy on their faces were infectious, and I sincerely hope this welcoming and encouraging atmosphere for young racers remains a core part of the club's identity.

One aspect that particularly impressed me was the variety of classes available. Unlike many off-road clubs that typically focus on either 2WD or 4WD buggy categories, SOAR offers a broader range of classes, each with a healthy number of participants. This diversity not only caters to different preferences and skill levels but also keeps the racing schedule exciting and varied.

SOAR Sheffield Off Road Grass Jumps

The track layout itself had a good flow, providing an engaging and challenging experience for racers. However, I did notice that the positioning of some of the jumps could use improvement. In particular, these jumps seemed to create a bit of chaos during the younger heats, potentially disrupting the racing experience for the less experienced drivers. Adjusting these jumps could enhance the overall track experience, especially for the junior participants.

Despite this minor critique, my day at SOAR was filled with enjoyable and challenging racing. The club's well-maintained track, the friendly and supportive community, and the high level of competition all contributed to a memorable visit. I would definitely visit the club again in the future and look forward to seeing how it continues to grow and evolve.
