Club Review
If you're an RC enthusiast in the Sheffield area, Sheffield RC Racing Eckington is the place to be on Monday nights. Located in the charming town of Eckington, this club offers an exhilarating experience for electric indoor on-road RC car racing.
The club boasts a track laid out on PrimaFelt carpet, with white downpipe track markers providing a clear and professional racing environment. Each Monday night, around 25 racers gather, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere.
From my recent visit, I can confidently say I had a fantastic night racing at the club. The competition in the Mini class was fierce, featuring highly experienced drivers that made for some thrilling heats. Despite the competitive edge, the atmosphere remained welcoming and friendly. The club members were more than happy to share tips and advice, making it an ideal environment for both beginners and seasoned racers.
The schedule is well-organized, with the club opening its doors at 5:30 PM, allowing ample time for practice laps before the official racing kicks off at 6:45 PM. The racing format includes three qualifying rounds followed by a final, ensuring everyone gets plenty of track time. The presence of a referee during the finals added a layer of professionalism and fairness to the competition.
Sheffield RC Racing Eckington offers three classes of racing: Tamiya Touring Car Clubman, Tamiya 2WD M Chassis, and MTC cars. This variety caters to different preferences and skill levels, with driver abilities split evenly between beginners and good amateurs. The club’s atmosphere is predominantly focused on the fun side of racing, though certain heats do ramp up the competitive spirit, providing a balanced experience for all.
One of the pleasant surprises was the food – reasonably priced and delicious. I had chicken strips and chips, which hit the spot perfectly amidst the excitement of the races.
Overall, Sheffield RC Racing Eckington is a top-notch RC club that delivers on all fronts: competitive racing, a friendly community, and great amenities. Whether you're a newbie looking to learn the ropes or an experienced driver seeking a thrilling race, this club is definitely worth a visit.
